Today i saw this popup advertisement about reliance Netconnect  internet service which seem just too good

according to dictionary.com

unlimited - –adjective
1. not limited; unrestricted; unconfined: unlimited trade.
2. boundless; infinite; vast: the unlimited skies.
3. without any qualification or exception; unconditional.

But  if you check on Reliance Netconnect broadband Terms and service in tiny letters in its terms and condition for reliance the word “unlimited” has separate definition unlimited (subjected to fair usage limit of 10gb/month) 

so in my personal opinion i feel this advertisment totaly contradicts itself at one place it says unlimited at another it says there limit so 

its almost like saying your paying for buffet dinner but you cant eat more then one serving 

- Coming back to Reliance Netconnect i was really impressed with claim of upto 3.1 mbps which too good imagine even if i get say 1 mbps  it would be still much faster then my current vodafone gprs which i guess  gives around  144kbps … speed

- Also another advantage of Reliance it says it has nationwide roaming which another added benefit 

only need to figure out if the pendrive plugin modem which reliance netconnect provides  is compatible with mac OS X and if it would work on macbook.  vodafone website  does clearly say their pendrive modem is  compatible with Mac OS software ….

guess before i buy i would  need to call up reliance netconnect or send them email inorder to confirm that their service would work on Mac OS

i have  had this Black and white Samsung ML-1610 laser printer, i would say it isnt the most hitech printer, it is the most basic laser printer, i got it 2 years back and back then  it was the cheapest laser printer  available in Mumbai, India it was about 90-100$,

i am stil very happy with the printer it does it basic job , as i dont require much printing just once in while….. its perfect and economical, even print quality id decent

Today after being on macbook for about 1 and half month, i was in need of printer wanted to get E-ticket printed…  

i am saying to myself i would’nt be surprised if  my old printer doesn’t work on macbook and i am forced to buy new printer…. even when i don’t require new printer perfectly happy with old printer   

i said why give up without trying…. so went ahead  and tried to add samsung Ml-1610 printer in macbook system preference 

 i could not find Samsung Ml 1610 in the drivers list, i could only see samsung Ml 1630, i thought might be this would work why not give it a try,….. so i installed samsung ML1630 driver to use with old samsung Ml1610 printer and i was hopeing for miracle to happen and wait for it to work 

and it didnt work    

now back to thought  damn ill have to shell out money to buy new printer or wait may be ill email samsung support, or  email apple customer care … or best googleso i tried google for answers and i came across Splix for mac OS X

This is a Mac OS X package for SpliX, a set of CUPS printer drivers for SPL (Samsung Printer Language) printers. If you have a such printer, you need to download and use SpliX.    

After installing Splix i could see Samsung ML 1610 in mabook system preference (printer and fax) and i went ahead and added it and it worked perfectly fine… yayyy !!

google just saved me 200$ i dont have to buy new printer i could get my old printer Samsung ML 1610 to work on my macbook with mac OS x leopard  version 10.5.2

one problem with having macbook white is that it tend to get dirty and  starts to look pale easily, while cleaning my table drawer   i found these “casino wet tissues” they anti trace , i remember picking them up from US…year back…. i had forgotten i even have them…..

they cleans up the screen really well, i even cleaned up the keypad with them,

officially apple does provide a black cloth along with the macbook, i wonder if they also have any spray or other cleaning solution

one of biggest plus point of apple mac is the bundle of application like  iphotos etc etc which provides particular user experience from managing photos to sharing photos in mac webgallery with family and friends, also ability to order prints directly without any hassle   

it sucks that apple currently does not provide photo print service , whats more pathetic is it is  not something that is impossible to provide , currently there are already platform and many similar service provider available which provide direct printing from home

it would be nice if apple can use any one of such service and integrate them with apple iphoto so as to provide photo printing service in india  or may be start its own photo printing service or outsource printing to kodak etc 

but seeing the sad attitude of apple towards india i dont see that happening soon

 I love the default wall paper available in mac leopard X version 10.5.2, i am not much into downloading  fancy wall papers and screen savers from internet  , when it comes desktop wallpapers mostly  you would find some of my holiday photo or the default photos 

in mac i love the default apple wall papers which are  available , they too sleek and clean,  i just discovered feature where in you can set the option to change desktop wallpaper  every  ”5 seconds to 30 min or every day ” etc 

i have selected deafult apple wall papers from  ”Nature” folder   and selected to change desktop photo  every 30 minute

while i was on windows Xp i use to use adobe photoshop a lot used it for personal use .. edit photos, or create logos etc etc  after having moved to Mac  even though there exist a  mac version of adobe photoshop , its insane price 600$+ obviously it more geared for professionals 

Thus i was on lookout for cheaply priced photoshop alternative for mac not more then say 30$,  and if i could find a free version then nothing like it , so while on lookout i came across something called ” GIMP”   it is GNU image manipulation programe its freely distributed  and can be used for retouching images or image authoring etc  

GIMP seem perfect for my usage and seem could do almost everything which photoshop did, so i have downloaded a mac version from the GIMP website  and its free

today i had plugged in a USB key in order to transfer some document files, i remember In windows there use to be tiny popup in task bar saying “its safe to disconnect ”  my approach to adjusting to mac  has been more on the lines

• learn by playing around  trial and error
•  if still not able to figure out then may be search for answers on google
• or if i am just too lazy then call up apple tech support and have them help me out 

today i was in hurry and just pulled my USB key which was connected to macbook and this is what i got ……

next time onwards i know what not to do, and rather choosing the blunt way of removing devices connected through USB port , i would try and go about going it the  right way i.e as the alert message says first eject the device and then remove

as i had recently bought new version of macbook 2.4 it has the latest Mac OS X version 10.5.2 installed but when i ran the software update wizard there were n number of updates pending for other software like safari, itunes , iweb, iphoto, etc etc

as you all know when  it comes to software upgrade and file size apple very generous  each upgrade file at least 35-50 Mb or even more,  so  it showed total of some 300MB worth of  file pending,

 at home i have slow internet connection hathway 256kbps would have taken long time to download that much , so today at hotel room the i had subscribed to intertouch  connection which was fast about 1mbps

Note: intertouch internet at hotel room was rip off charging 0.50$ that is 20 rupees per minute is insane  

 as i was getting charged so high i might as well utilized it to fullest ,i decided to run the mac software upgrade wizard  and install all pending software upgrade 

at last all upgrade installed and it says : your software is up to date

i have 60 GB video ipod which was earlier connected to windows xp and thus the file format is windows, i knew the though connecting it to my new macbook there bound to be fights between the file system  as mac uses different file system and windows file system is FAT32

another problem ipod gets syned to one itunes library so when you connect it to another itunes it ask you to erase this ipod and sync with this itunes library …

are you out of your mind ? all the music, photos, video would be lost   

i know i can google and search for solution to these problem i am sure there must be many people who faced similar problem and there would be many solutions in different forums  but dont have time right now …. so to save time  i thought ill directly call up the apple tech support in india as i have apple protection care which provides phone tech support for 3 years  The apple india tech support phone number  (1800 4250 744) no one answering there is recorded message  saying  is closed ? its sunday today , i assumed its open 24/7 but guess i was wrong so i guess i would have to wait another day
